Amy's Story

Amy’s Story

My journey began as a young child. Growing up, I dealt with a lot of “grown up” issues which lead me into a 20 year battle with anxiety. This manifested many imbalances in my body - extreme gut issues, chronic fatigue, IBS, skin issues, menstrual disorders, and more. Finding no relief, I eventually fell into deep depression. I sought out psychologists and medical doctors for help, and was prescribed pharmaceuticals. This ended up making things with my mental health much worse. So, I fled to Jamaica for a summer, working in a mental health facility as a nurse resident. It was here that I encountered my first experiences with plant medicine, and with spirit medicine.

I spent a lot of time with the Maroon peoples of Jamaica, and learned so much. I will forever be grateful. They taught me how to deal with the depression I was experiencing in a way that was graceful and freeing. They brought me back to seeing the beauty of life, and of love. My connection with the Earth and my own Spirit grew strong, and the plants began calling to me.

Soon after I returned from Jamaica, I developed an infection that would last 10 months, and 9 rounds of antibiotics later, I still had the infection. I wasn’t confident in treating myself with plants just yet, and so, I didn’t even consider trying any plant medicine. I entrusted someone with my story, and she made me an essential oil blend to put on my feet night and day. 5 days later, the infection was gone. I was blown away, and from then on, committed myself to learning everything I could about plant medicine, which turned into holistic health, which has expanded me in so many ways.

I earned my Nursing degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a specialty in Neurology in 2017. I spent one and a half of those years working in a hospital that utilized Western medicine practices solely. This was very challenging for me, as I had seen the miraculous effects of plant-based medicine on my family, my friends, and on myself. I learned that I wasn't able to help people the way I desired using Western medicine alone. I have since worked with many clients privately, and have learned to marry the western medicine techniques with the natural medicine techniques in order to create a state of wellness in the individual.

It is my passion to give people the knowledge and tools they need to heal themselves. This is how Rooted in Lovee was born. I believe that we are all healers, and the first and ultimate place to begin and deepen that journey is in oneself. There is no imbalance that is too complicated or too far gone to experience relief. Your health truly is in your hands, and with this understanding comes the power to achieve wellness.
